Sandra Wieser and Daniela Steflitsch took part again this year in the Math Education Young Researcher Meeting As a lot has happened at MatheConnect over the past year, the two were able to share their first exciting research findings with colleagues from Austria. In their presentation entitled “Mathematics and society – (no) connection? Students' perceptions of the link between mathematics and social issues” they presented the topics in which students found it particularly easy to recognize connections between mathematics and society, and the strategies they used when they found these connections difficult. As soon as our first article on this topic is published, we will of course let you know—stay tuned!

The Annual 2025 ÖMG-DMV Meeting took place at JKU Linz from September 1 to 5. As part of the mini-symposium Mathematics and Society Daniela Steflitsch and Sandra Wieser presented insights into their research on the difficulties students have in linking social and mathematical topics. The exchange with subject didactics experts and mathematics specialists opened up exciting new approaches and led to enriching discussions.
